The exam from the GDx prints a color coded "thickness map" of the nerve fibre layer at the back of the eye. The deviation map identifies areas where retinal nerve fibre layer thickness is outside normal limits This information can assist the ophthalmologist to obtain objective values on the early changes which may help to determine if you have glaucoma. It also helps to follow and monitor progression in changes of patients who have already been diagnosed with glaucoma.

The GDx can be used to track the progression of glaucoma and can help determine if you have glaucoma, or other eye diseases. The GDx can be used at periodic times during the year to see if there are any changes which have not been seen on the visual field or through the dilated examination when evaluating the optic nerve head.
